Design goal: Keep everything as light as possible.
Nothing moves in any way, shape or form, yet it's easily detachable for maintenance or upgrades.

  • Future models.

Our next model is a portable CJ computer. The design is more compact than Mahine and will be more mechanically oriented. We will be focusing on full realtime multimedia manipulation. This machine will be useful for performance musicians on the move and DJ's who want to get into the digital realm.

    Design Notes

    Patrick Shirkey - Designer - 2001

"I have been researching this setup for the past two years seriously. Last year I purchased a 500mhz pIII notebook and as much as I liked the portability it did not meet the needs that I have for extreme high end use. I also found that being unable to get into the internals meant I was severly limited in terms of adding hardware efficiently. In the end I had more external bits and pieces than I could fit on a desk and all of them relying on very flimsy cables which can be quite stressful. All these factors combined plus the discussions I had with a few of the hardcore Linux audio developers convinced me that I can do better."

I have a feeling that people will not want to trust the machine to the ravages of the airport luggage handlers so it is designed to be hand luggage.

The screen is secured with velcro so you can easily move it if you need to. I have also made structural additions to the case that are not easy to show through photographs.

If you already have a soundcard we can install the appropriate drivers for you before shipping.

Lastly we gaurantee lifetime trouble shooting support. We do this because we want people to associate the product with high quality and genuine service. In the same way people feel about Harley Davidson or Bugatti. Of course one of the best things about the Linux community is the access to helpful advice. We fully encourage you to learn for yourself from the mass of internet resources if you do encounter problems."

    Software

Tell us and we will advise you on the best software for your needs. All GPL software is free.

This machine runs on the Linux operating system. Linux has matured over the past decade to become a very stable and powerful operating system. Designed principally to service the networking needs of the masses, people soon realised the potential of the Linux environment as a system for high end multimedia. There are now many programs and libraries designed around this principal. These days you can find Linux being used for multimedia in Hollywood films like Shrek. All the software provided has been fully tested for usability.

The sound drivers are from the Advanced Linux Sound Architecture (ALSA) project.
